Uppland trail - segment 11 - ca 21 km

Gimo - Österbybruk

This section connects two of Uppland's old ironworks towns, and you'll see some traces from those times. The path begins from the Gimo Herrgård's parking lot. You can also dine and stay overnight in this luxurious manor.

Trail description

This segment of the Uppland Trail alternates between open and closed coniferous forests, over mossy ground and wetlands. There is a wind shelter halfway at Glamsmossen. You will pass by Aspbo nature reserve, with a small campground and two swimming areas, before you reach Österbybruk. This segment is a segment less wandered so a lot of the time, there will only be you, the animals and the nature.

Along the trail

1. Gimo Manor Embedded in northern Uppland forests with the glimmering Gimo Sea and vast meadows at the doorstep, this segment starts at the first Swedish Gustavian manor. Possibilities for a nice meal and a good night sleep offers here before heading towards Österbybruk.

2. Folkmora & Sågarbo farm After 2.5 kilometers the trail leads into a clearing where the forest burned a few years ago. It could be a little difficult to get around. Instead, you can choose to take the nest dirt road. After a while you come to a rest area where the ruins of the farm Sågarbo are and you see traces a sawmill Stephan de Geer, owner of Gimo, bought in 1663. A little further on are the ruins of the farm Folkmora.

3. Glamsmossen In the vast Glamsmossen, were a great peat in the past. You follow an old floating dug to transport the logs from Österby mill to Gimo.

4. Aspbo nature reserve Aspbo is a very suitable place for a break at one of the bathing areas or barbecue places. It is possible to camp at the first bath, there is also a nature camp.
