Focus area – Biological mosquito control

The objective of biological mosquito control is to improve the environment for residents and domesticated animals and to improve the conditions for tourism by limiting the occurrence of mosquitoes in the Nedre Dalälven flood areas. Control activities are carried out through an independent unit based in Uppsala.

The work includes spreading biological pesticides by helicopter to control mosquitoes in Nedre Dalälven’s flood areas. Controls are conducted as needed based on e.g. water flows, flood conditions, water temperature, hatching situation, etc. We continuously monitor the mosquito population in the area and decide where biological controls should be conducted for optimum effect.
